Create an Instagram Token
What's all this for?
Instagram requires an access token to show the photos from your Instagram account on your website. This helps Instagram keep their platform secure and prevent unauthorized use. You’ll be taken to the Instagram site and you’ll be asked to grant access to your photos. You may be asked to log in. After you grant access you’ll be taken back here, and you’ll be able to copy your token into your theme settings.
Why is it showing images from the wrong account?
Instagram will generate a token for the account you are currently logged into. If you want to generate a token for a different account, go to instagram.com, log out, then log into the correct account before generating a token. If you don't want to log out, you can open this page in a private browsing / incognito window and generate the token. Instagram will ask you to log in to the correct account before generating the token.
Why do I need to generate a token?
Tokens are a safe and secure way of limiting bandwidth on a per-account basis. They allow Instagram to place reasonable limits on the amount of bandwidth that third party apps can use.
Is this going to give you access to my Instagram account?
Tokens can be used to grant access to your account, but this token is a read only token that can only be used to get a feed of your most recent photos.
What to do if your token is invalidated
Instagram invalidates tokens for security, bandwidth or liking/following from a third-party app. Most commonly this happens when a password is changed but it could also happen with a spike in traffic or a spike in likes or follows that Instagram thinks is programmatic or automated. Instagram doesn’t say when or why it invalidates tokens, or warn you when your token is invalidated. You can just generate a new one here and paste it into your theme settings - that will solve it.
Why should I trust Group Thought?
You don’t have to, Group Thought does not have access to your token or any of your private information.
I'm not able to see the token after granting access
If you've granted access successfully but are not able to view the generated token, try is again using our Corknine generator:
